This position is responsible for performing all tasks related to providing direct client advocacy and supportive services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. 

A. Advocacy – 70%

•Develop and facilitate an active weekly support group for men in our county

•Assist clients in meeting their individual needs

•Provide clients with assistance in pursuing civil, criminal and family court remedies

•Maintain and support collaboration with local Law Enforcement and other local agencies

•Recruit financial donations as opportunities arise

•Provide ongoing community education regarding domestic and sexual violence

•Maintain professional and positive working relationships with collaborative partners

•Maintain a professional and positive working relationship with staff, volunteers and interns

 

B. Office Support – 20%

•Maintain day-to day operation of your assigned office or the office you are covering for the day

•Create and maintain client files as needed for agency information system

•Keep accurate and up to date statistics

•Meet the deadline for statistics to be completed accurately and turned in to manager

•Maintain other files as needed

 

C. Miscellaneous – 10% 

•Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

•Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence and related advocacy.

•Knowledge of Minnesota Government Data Practice Act

•Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, work independently and prioritize duties

•Knowledge of computer programs including: Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

•Ability to effectively communicate with others, a willingness to learn new things, and accept change.

•Ability to work with diverse populations

•Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally sit or stand for long periods of time, bend, lift, and reach with hands and arms.

•High school diploma required.

•Must be able to commit to on-call rotation and maintain flexible hours.

•Must have a valid driver’s license, valid car insurance and a clean driving record.

 

Work is performed according to the established guidelines.  The Refuge Network has some latitude to exercise independent judgement with the scope of established policies and procedures. Work is routinely checked for quality and a yearly performance evaluation is completed.  The advocate works primarily in their assigned county but is not limited to that county. Job Title:             Overnight Shelter Advocate

Position:              16 hours every other weekend (overnight)

Benefits:              None

Location:             Cambridge, Minnesota    

Salary Band:       Wages $13.00-$15.00/hour depending on experience, plus overnight shift differential pay
 

Key responsibilities:

The Refuge Network is a program with the mission to provide supportive services for people who are currently involved or have been in an abusive relationship. The (overnight) Shelter Advocate will provide direct service and systems advocacy to battered women and their families.  Duties will include crisis intervention, personal and legal advocacy, client intakes and exit interviews, case management, data collection and entry, and other duties as assigned.

 

Required skills and abilities:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Handle confidential client and administrative information

• Ability to prioritize, be self-directed and handle variety of tasks

• Works well independently or with others

 

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED, advanced degree preferred

• Two years’ experience in working with victims of domestic violence or related field

• Valid driver’s license, car insurance, and clean driving record

• Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screening
